UFC on FOX Results

“I will prove, when you believe in something and you are a good person, good things happen.”

These were the words of the new UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior dos Santos (14-1) before he defeated Cain Velasquez (9-1) at 1:04 of the 1st round by knockout in the first ever historic fight on FOX TV.

Ushering in a new era in the growth of MMA, it was an all around successful night for the UFC as they crowned a new champion in front of their largest audience ever.

Coming into the fight, Velasquez decided against utilizing his wrestling opting instead to throw leg kicks and stand in front of dos Santos. This turned out to be the wrong strategy, as dos Santos connected with a perfect overhand right to the temple of Velasquez which knocked him down before a barrage of unanswered punches crowned a new UFC Heavyweight Champion.

“I have no words to say how I'm feeling” said an emotional Junior dos Santos in the post-fight interview.

Admitting to being scared to fight Velasquez, it is difficult not to like and root for dos Santos as even in victory, he remained humble and kind-spirited.

Up next for the new champion will be either Brock Lesnar or Alistair Overeem who fight in the main event of UFC 141 on Dec. 30th to determine the next number one contender for the Heavyweight Championship.

The co-main event of the evening was not shown on the FOX TV presentation but should have been as Benson Henderson (15-2) and Clay Guida (29-12) both put on amazing performances.

The fight was honored with fight of the night honors and in the end Benson Henderson defeated Clay Guida via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27) to become the number one contender for the UFC Lightweight Championship.

Action packed from start to finish, both men kept up an incredible high energy pace but it was Henderson who ended up on top during scrambles and landed the more significant strikes while in exchanges.

With the victory, Henderson earned the right to next fight Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar when the UFC returns to Japan Feb. 25th in the main event saying “Frankie Edgar we got a date. Let's do it baby!”
