UFC 143: Fabricio Werdum Returns to Take On "Big Country"

"Fabricio Werdum returns to the UFC and fights Roy Nelson. UFC 143 is headlined by Nick Diaz vs. Carlos Condit for the Welterweight Interim Championship."

Heeeeeee's Baaaaack!!

Fabricio Werdum (14-5-1) the first fighter to ever decisively defeat the legend Fedor Emelianenko returns to the UFC against TUF 10 champion Roy “Big Country” Nelson (16-6) at UFC 143 on Feb. 4th, 2012.

A black belt in Judo and Muay Thai, as well as a second degree black belt in BJJ, Werdum recently competed in the UFC, compiling a modest 2-2 record.

Victorious over Brandon Vera and Gabriel Gonzaga, Werdum was knocked out of the UFC by a vicious uppercut courtesy of the debuting UFC Heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos in 2008.

Werdum then went over to Strikeforce, where he picked up 3 straight wins including submitting Fedor in 1:04 of the first round via triangle armchoke.

This victory shook up the MMA community, earning Werdum submission and upset of 2010.

However, Wedum recently lost his latest contest against Alistair Overeem in a real stinker of a fight, back in June.

Not wanting to stand and trade with the K-1 Champion, Werdum flopped around and chased Overeem around on the mat, trying to get the Dutch striker to play in his world on the ground. Overeem refused and won a one-sided unanimous decision, effectively negating all of Werdum's previous momentum.

Roy Nelson is coming off a thrilling TKO victory over Mirko Cro Cop, who retired from active MMA competition after the bout.

A well rounded fighter with a hell of a chin, Nelson is one of the most exciting heavyweight competitors in the sport.

Although, the bout will do little in regards towards a Heavyweight title fight, the contest should be a great scrap between two of the most versatile big men of all time.

UFC 143 was supposed to be headlined by Georges St. Pierre defending his Welterweight Championship against Nick Diaz, but an ACL injury has forced GSP to withdraw from the bout.

Instead, Diaz will now fight Carlos Condit for the interim Welterweight belt. Josh Koscheck also returns to action, taking on Mike Pierce.
